Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty on Tuesday morning issued an arrest warrant for Woman Police Inspector Roshelle Peters after she failed to appear at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to testify in the ongoing March 2020 election fraud trial.

When the matter was called, the court was informed that Peters, a prosecution witness, was absent. Magistrate McGusty noted that Peters had been bound over by the court to attend the hearing on October 27.

“She was bound over by me, Mr. Prosecutor. The thing is, she was bound over by the court, and it is the court that told her she had to come on the 27,” McGusty stated.

Peters testified last month about a passport application made in the name of former Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield and the operation of the passport system.

She told the court that she had previously worked in the data-entry section of the Central Immigration and Passport Office, where she served as a supervisor. In October 2020, while stationed at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, she was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department and interviewed about Lowenfield’s application for a new passport.

The trial is now winding down, with only a few witnesses remaining to testify. Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Justice (Ret’d) Claudette Singh, is expected to take the stand as a key prosecution witness as the case moves towards its conclusion.

The trial stems from investigations into alleged attempts to manipulate the results of the March 2020 General and Regional Elections.

Among those facing charges are former Region Four Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo, Lowenfield and former Deputy Chief Elections Officer Roxanne Myers.

Also charged are former People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Chairperson Volda Lawrence, PNCR activist Carol Smith-Joseph and GECOM staff members Enrique Livan, Michelle Miller, Sheffern February and Denise Babb-Cummings.
