Minister of Housing Collin Croal has announced that construction is progressing on 100 three-bedroom bungalow-roof houses and 110 young professional houses in Palmyra, Region Six, as the Ministry continues to expand housing opportunities in the area.
The 100 three-bedroom bungalow-roof houses cost $13 million each and are targeted for completion by February 2027. They follow an earlier batch of 100 similar houses that has already been completed. Eighteen Berbice-based contractors are involved in the current phase, creating employment opportunities for local builders.
Construction is also ongoing on 110 young professional houses, priced at $19.5 million each. Minister Croal explained that these houses are being offered at construction cost. Interested beneficiaries who already have applications in the system can contact the Ministry’s Region Six office to express their interest.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the first 100 completed houses can apply to Guyana Power and Light (GPL) for electricity connections once they obtain their electrical certificates. Plans are also underway to drill an independent well to meet the growing water demand in Palmyra.
The minister further noted that two-bedroom houses will be introduced in a subsequent phase in response to growing demand for this type of housing.
