Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken will be one of the first persons to be kicked out of office if the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) wins government after the September 1 poll. This promise was made by APNU’s Vice President Candidate Ganesh “Manish” Mahipaul. The politician delivered a scorching presentation during his party’s campaign launch this evening at the Square of the Revolution.
Addressing members of the Guyana’s Police Force, Mahipaul said an APNU regime wants to see the transformation of this institution that is meant to protect and serve.
Mahipaul said, “We know you stand strong with us. And we have some of them in brown that stand solidly with us too. But September 1st, 2025, after the declaration of the results, and Aubrey Compton Norton is sworn in as president, Clifton Hicken has to go home.”
Mahipaul said Hicken is an embarrassment to the Guyana Police Force, a failed leader whose time has long expired.
“The fact that (President) Irfan Ali still has him there is testimony to the fact that they don’t want to promote police officers. Because he is taking up a space that somebody more competent can very well take,” said Mahipaul.
The Vice President Candidate said trust has to be rebuilt in the Guyana Police Force and it can only start this process by removing the PPP and sending Hicken home.
