Joel Harding, a 28-year-old construction worker and resident of Coomacka Mines, Upper Demerara River, was charged on Monday last with the offence of murder.

Harding was charged with killing Courtney Evans, a 49-year-old US-based Guyanese businessman, which occurred on August 31, 2025, at Coomacka Mines.

On Monday, September 8, 2025, the accused appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ruschell Liverpool. The charge was read to him. He was not required to plead, and he was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to 20th October 2025 for disclosure.

Courtney Evans was killed during a brawl at Coomacka Mines Beach, Linden, on Sunday night.

According to the police, a fight erupted between Evans, his brother Tyrone Otis Evans, a friend and a group of persons shortly after they arrived at the Coomacka Mines Beach to ‘lime’.

Courtney was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex and died while receiving treatment. He received one wound to his lower back, one to his head and another to his elbow.
