APNU Member of Parliament Terrence Campbell has called for an independent investigation into Prem Narine’s conduct and an immediate reconsideration of bail applications for Azruddin Mohamed and Ryan Greene, citing a newly circulated social media video that he says raises questions about the allegations against them.
In a statement, Campbell argued that the footage warrants fresh scrutiny of Narine’s account and the evidence underpinning the cases. He also called for the video to be preserved, independently examined by forensic experts and disclosed.
“The emergence of a new video on social media has cast further serious doubts on the veracity and credibility of Prem Narine’s account of the events surrounding this matter,” Campbell said.
He added that an investigation into Narine’s conduct should be free from political influence and institutional interference, with prosecution to follow if the evidence establishes criminal wrongdoing.
“If the evidence establishes that false allegations were deliberately made, or that evidence was manipulated or misrepresented, those responsible must face the full consequences of the law,” he said.
He argued that an individual’s account should not be shielded from scrutiny merely because it has led to the arrest and continued detention of others.
Campbell contended that the video represents a “material change in circumstances” relevant to the further prosecution of firearm charges against Mohamed and others, as well as the determination of bail in cybercrime charges against Mohamed and Greene.
He maintained that the footage could undermine the factual basis of the allegations and raise questions about the reliability of the evidence.
On bail, Campbell argued that any assessment of the risk of reoffending should be objective and grounded in credible evidence. He said the state should not rely on disputed allegations while overlooking material that emerged after the initial bail determination.
“Bail is not a determination of guilt or innocence,” Campbell said. “It is a fundamental safeguard against unnecessary pre-trial detention.”
He also accused the state of using false allegations to prosecute political opponents. The material supplied does not independently substantiate that accusation.
Campbell called for an immediate, independent investigation into Narine’s conduct, with prosecution to follow if the evidence establishes criminal wrongdoing. He also urged the preservation, independent forensic examination and disclosure of the newly emerged video, along with an immediate reconsideration of Mohamed’s and Greene’s bail applications in light of what he described as changed circumstances.
“The rule of law demands impartiality, accountability and equal treatment before the law,” Campbell said.
