Though it was crushed, ceded decades-old traditional strongholds, and lost its status as the main Parliamentary Opposition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) does not view the election outcome as a defeat. At least, this is according to candidate Dexter Todd.

“There are no losers. We don’t consider ourselves losers at all,” he told fellow APNU member, Coretta McDonald, during her online programme “Advancing the Cause.”

He added that the party had an opportunity to present its message and vision for Guyana, which it believes would advance the country and improve the lives of its people. “We had an opportunity to send a clear message and to share a vision for Guyana, which we believe will advance our people and put our people on the right path,” Todd said.

On the outcome, Todd described it not as a loss but as a temporary setback. “I see this as a delay. I don’t see this as a loss. I see this as a delay. There is a delay in delivering what I believe the APNU will be able to do for the people of Guyana. Just a delay. But I always say a delay is not a denial.”

While he expressed disappointment that the party’s message did not resonate as widely as expected, partly due to low voter turnout, Todd emphasised that the outcome provides an opportunity for APNU to continue engaging with citizens and educating them about the party’s vision.

“But I think this delay allows us to continue on the same path of educating our people and to interact with our people, to also make them understand the vision for Guyana and the way in which their lives can be developed in this country. It ought not to be swept under the carpet, all because we are not in government,” Todd said.
