Businessman Dr Terrence Campbell will head A Partnership for National Unity’s (APNU) 12-member team in the 13th Parliament of Guyana, as party leader Aubrey Norton confirmed he will not be returning to the National Assembly.
The announcement was made today by Norton at a press conference. Campbell, founder of the Camex Group, will serve as parliamentary leader, bringing experience in finance, logistics, and entrepreneurship to the role.
APNU’s line-up includes returning parliamentarians Coretta McDonald, Ganesh Mahipaul, and Nima Flue-Bess. Joining them are academic and commentator Dr David Hinds; educator Riaz Rupnarain; and Sherod Duncan. Also named are Linden Mayor and former Regional Chairman Sharma Raheem Solomon; attorney Dr Dexter Todd; gospel artiste and entrepreneur Saiku Andrews; and PNCR Vice-Chairman Vinceroy Jordan, representing Region Five.
Norton said the slate was chosen after wide consultation and reflects a mix of experienced legislators, professionals, and grassroots leaders. “This team will represent the interests of ordinary Guyanese while advancing policies to ensure fairness, opportunity, and development for all,” he stated.
He underscored that while he will not return to Parliament, he remains leader of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R). He also disclosed that he does not plan to contest for the party’s presidency.
“As I said before, I will not be returning to Parliament, but I will continue as leader of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNC/R). I will work to continue the rebuilding of the party… our party is like a good oak tree; it will re-emerge stronger and better,” Norton said. He intends to focus on rebuilding the party’s structure ahead of the next elections.
APNU, which lost the 2025 general elections, was also dethroned as the country’s main opposition. The newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), led by sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed, secured 16 seats, while APNU won 12.
Notably, Roysdale Forde, who had been hardly visible in recent months except for a few written critiques of Government, did not make the parliamentary cut for APNU. Forde had mounted and lost an internal party election for leader to Norton, who, as head of the APNU list, ultimately decides the parliamentary nominees.
