A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Executive Member, Ganesh Mahipaul says the appointment of businessman Dr Terrence Campbell as leader of the party’s 12-member team in the 13th Parliament is a bold and powerful step that already positions the opposition as “a force to be reckoned with.”
Mahipaul underscored that the decision by party leader and head of the list, Aubrey Norton, to repose confidence in Dr Campbell is supported by the entire time. “First and foremost, he is a mature and successful businessman, but equally important, he shares our deep commitment to good governance, accountability, and transparency.
“Dr Campbell also brings a fresh perspective and a different angle to the parliamentary discussion which is needed for the restructuring, rebuilding, and rebranding on the way forward,” Mahipaul said.
Addressing concerns about Campbell’s lack of parliamentary experience, Mahipaul was quick to dismiss them. “Some have expressed concerns that others, myself included, have more parliamentary experience. But let us not forget we all began as first-timers and learned along the way.
“Dr Campbell, too, will learn as he leads, and he has already assured us that we will function as a team. We will learn from him, and he will learn from us,” he said.
Mahipaul added that the mix of Campbell’s business acumen and the experience of returning MPs will strengthen the party’s voice in Parliament.
Despite securing a smaller allocation of seats in the House, Mahipaul said the coalition’s mission remains unchanged: represent the interests of all citizens while holding government’s feet to the fire.
