The Guyana Police Force is investigating an accident that occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, on the Parika Backdam (main access road), East Bank Essequibo, which resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl, Supriya Khan, of Naamryck Koker, East Bank Essequibo.
The accident occurred at about 15:05 hours and involved Motor Pick-Up GAB 8162, driven by 22-year-old Arif Alli of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, and an electric cycle operated by 32-year-old Imran Khan of Naamryck Koker, along with 8-year-old Supriya Khan, who was the pillion rider.
Guyana Standard understands that tragedy struck when the electric cycle, operated by Khan with the 8-year-old girl as pillion rider, was proceeding east along the road.
The Pick-Up vehicle, which was proceeding in the same direction behind the electric bike, attempted to pass the bike and, in the process, collided with Imran Khan and Supriya Khan.
As a result of the collision, Imran Khan and Supriya Khan fell onto the road’s surface and received injuries to their bodies.
Supriya Khan was picked up by the driver of the pick-up in an unconscious state and taken to the De Kinderen Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Imran Khan, who was also taken to the said hospital, was admitted, suffering from a fractured skull.
The body of 8-year-old Supriya was escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Breathalyser tests conducted on 22-year-old Arif Alli showed 128 and 134 micrograms. According to police, the legal limit is .35 micograms.
Investigations are ongoing.
