Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Thursday delivered remarks at the Ministry of Agriculture’s Diwali programme, where he reflected on the significance of the Festival of Lights and its enduring message of hope, unity, peace and the triumph of light over darkness.

Minister Mustapha noted that Diwali serves as an important reminder of the values that unite people, regardless of their religious or cultural backgrounds. He highlighted Guyana’s rich history of religious and cultural diversity, noting that Guyanese have long embraced and celebrated each other’s religious observances, a tradition that continues to strengthen national unity and mutual respect.

The Minister explained that this spirit of togetherness reflects President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s One Guyana vision, which promotes inclusivity, respect and equal opportunities for all Guyanese. He emphasised that the country’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths and that the same spirit of unity and cooperation is essential to national development.

Turning his attention to the agriculture sector, Minister Mustapha highlighted the significant investments being made by the Government to modernise agricultural infrastructure, expand production, introduce new technologies and create greater opportunities for farmers and other stakeholders. He noted that these investments form part of the Government’s wider development agenda, aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening food security and ensuring that the benefits of national progress reach communities across Guyana.

Minister Mustapha encouraged those present to embrace the message of Diwali by continuing to promote harmony, understanding and cooperation, noting that these values are fundamental to building a stronger, more united and prosperous Guyana.

Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Hon. Vikash Ramkissoon, and other Heads of Department were also present.
