As the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) rolls out its strategy to rebrand, rebuild and reposition for greater success at the 2030 polls, its Executive Member, Ganesh Mahipaul said citizens can expect a reconnection with the grassroots. During Sunday’s broadcast of the party’s show, Nation Watch, Mahipaul was careful to note that such mobilization stands to benefit greatly from the institutional knowledge of Opposition Leader, Aubrey Norton.

With the APNU being removed from the main parliamentary post by We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), the three month old party of billionaire Azruddin Mohamed, calls have mounted for Norton to step down as leader of the APNU and the PNCR.

Mahipaul believes throwing Norton aside would be a grave mistake especially as the party moves to rebuild.

Mahipaul pointed out that it was under the leadership of Norton, the party’s membership saw notable growth. “…There is no doubt that our membership has grown significantly from 18,000 plus to 23,000 plus under Aubrey Norton’s leadership. He has been on the ground, he has been meeting with comrades, and he has been spreading that message of strengthening our group membership,” Mahipaul said.

Mahipaul then cautioned against disregarding senior figures who bring institutional knowledge to the table which would be helpful at this pressing time. “When we talk about rebranding, it is all about presenting a new leadership team… Everybody has their time in the sun. And when your time is up, you ought to transition, to move forward, to give way, to make space for brighter, younger…

“But I always say, we must never throw away the old for the new. The old has to give us the institutional knowledge,” he asserted, adding that stalwarts such as Hamilton Green, Aubrey Norton, and Jeffrey Thomas remain vital to shaping the PNCR’s direction.
