Police are investigating a shooting incident committed on Quacy Jandoo, a 38-year-old unemployed man of no fixed place of abode, which occurred at about 21:45 hrs on Monday.
The incident occurred at Regent Street, Bourda, Georgetown, in the vicinity of Classic Styles Boutique.
Investigations revealed that Jandoo was near the boutique located on the northern side of Regent Street when he was confronted by Ryan Weekes, a 38-year-old Supernumerary Constable attached to KGM Security Services.
An argument ensued between Jandoo and Weekes, when the latter pulled out a handgun and discharged a round at Jandoo. The man was struck on his left thigh before falling to the ground. He managed to get up and fled into a nearby yard.
Weekes was contacted and questioned, and he stated that on the day in question, at 19:00 hrs, he reported for duty at the Classic Collection building on Regent Street, Georgetown. He was issued a .32 pistol along with a magazine containing 10 matching rounds to perform duty.
On the date and time mentioned, while he was at the guard hut inside the compound, performing duties, he heard a noise coming from the front of the building. Weekes said he went to check and observed Jandoo with a hacksaw blade cutting a One Communication cable (wire) that was attached to the building.
Weekes said he shouted at Jandoo to stop, but he refused, and an argument then ensued. Jandoo allegedly pulled out a cutlass from his pants waist and attacked Weekes, which caused him to draw his service pistol and he discharged a round in Jandoo’s direction.
The Police were informed, and ranks located Jandoo in a nearby known ‘drug block’. He was escorted to GPHC, where he was treated and was admitted in a stable condition. He received one gunshot wound to his thigh.
Police took possession of the firearm and Weekes is assisting with the investigation.
