Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, Azruddin Mohamed this afternoon claimed that his party won Guyanaโ€™s September 1 elections, despite official results showing otherwise.

Mohamed has provided no evidence to substantiate his claims, which contradict the certified results issued by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

โ€œWe won this elections. The PPP, itโ€™s a rigged government. We won the elections,โ€ Mohamed told reporters, following his swearing-in as a Member of Parliament.

โ€œThat is why they are so scared. They are so scared of this movement because they know the true numbers,โ€ he said.

According to GECOMโ€™s official declaration, the PPP/C secured 242,497 votes, representing about 55% percent of the total valid votes cast. WIN placed second with 109,075 votes, roughly 25%.

Despite this, Mohamed insisted, โ€œWe didnโ€™t get 109,000 votes. We won the elections.โ€ When pressed on how he determined that the election was rigged, he responded, โ€œThe [GECOM] website was down,โ€ and claimed, โ€œGECOM is an arm of the PPP. We gotta try to get reform. We gotta try to get biometrics, because if we donโ€™t, theyโ€™re going to continue rigging the elections.โ€

Mohamed, who leads WIN, said the party intends to push for major electoral reforms, such as biometrics, ahead of the next general elections. โ€œThe next step, the next elections, we going into the office,โ€ he said.

He also revealed that WIN has decided on three persons to nominate as commissioners to sit on the seven-member Elections Commission, though he did not disclose the names.
