The Hyde Park (Yarrowkabra) Homestead Project was officially launched moments ago, drawing an overwhelming response from prospective homeowners.
The site was filled with applicants who turned out in their numbers to see firsthand what many described as a life-changing opportunity.
Attendees toured the newly constructed homes, each thoughtfully designed to support socioeconomic empowerment and sustainable living. A key feature of every unit is a fully integrated shade house, reinforcing the project’s focus on food security, self-reliance and household income generation.
The opening ceremony was led by the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, alongside the Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn, and the Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McKoy.
They were joined by the Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Dr. Martin Pertab; Chief Executive Officer of NARIE, Mr. Jagnarine Singh; Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Commission, Mr. Edward Goberdhan; and other key officials.
The Hyde Park Homestead Project is the brainchild of President Dr. Irfaan Ali and is specifically designed to support women-led households. It is being rolled out through a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Agriculture, underscoring the Government’s integrated approach to housing, livelihoods and sustainable development.
Each home is priced at GY$7 million and includes the land and shade house. The units are compact yet functional, featuring two bedrooms, one bathroom, a combined kitchen, dining and living area, and a verandah. Built with reinforced concrete foundations, solid kerb walls and durable superstructures, the homes are designed for longevity and comfort. Two 450-gallon water tanks and a 20ft by 20ft shade house further enhance the functionality of each property.
At today’s event, applicants drawn from the Ministry’s housing database were able to receive pre-qualification letters from commercial banks on the spot, significantly fast-tracking their journey to homeownership. Persons with pending applications were also facilitated, with opportunities to register for future allocations.
To date, 50 housing units have already been completed, with an additional twenty-five at 50% completed. When fully developed, the first block in the Hyde Park (Yarrowkabra) site will accommodate the 112 units.
One of the standout moments of the launch was the unveiling of a fully furnished model home, giving visitors a practical demonstration of how the space can be efficiently and comfortably utilised. Applicants also witnessed a demonstration of the shade house, highlighting its potential for food production and small-scale income generation.
Also, several strategic finanical partners including the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) and Citizens Bank, Republic Bank were present while applicants are free to engage other commercial banks.
Insurance Companies, Assuria, Hand-in-hand Mutual Insurance Company Ltd., and Nalico Nafico were also on hand.
For many who attended, the launch represented more than just a housing project—it was a tangible step toward stability, empowerment and a more secure future for families across Guyana.
