Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, recently met with contractors currently executing projects across the country to review progress and discuss contractual timelines for their completion. During the engagement, the Minister stressed the importance of ensuring that all projects are completed within the agreed contractual timeframes, noting that these initiatives form a critical part of the Government’s broader development agenda and play an integral role in supporting the agriculture sector.

He emphasized that while challenges may arise during project execution, contractors are expected to account for potential issues such as weather conditions, equipment malfunctions, and the sourcing of materials before submitting bids for such projects. The Minister also explained that contractors are provided with opportunities to visit project sites to assess the scope of work, allowing them to determine whether they can deliver the expected outcomes within the contractual timelines.

Among the projects examined were the construction and rehabilitation of pump stations, farm-to-market roads, sluices, and other critical drainage and irrigation infrastructure. Also present at the meeting were the Chief Executive Officer of the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), Mr. Timothy Innis; Chairman of NDIA, Mr. Lionel Wordsworth; and regional engineers and project consultants.
