A 39-year-old construction worker who was previously remanded to prison after being charged with firearm, ammunition and cannabis possession has now been freed after the court dismissed all charges against him.
Christopher Durjan of First Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where his attorney, Bernard Da Silva, successfully argued for the dismissal of the matters.
Durjan had been charged following a police operation during which ranks reportedly discovered a 9mm pistol, five rounds of matching ammunition, and 2,338 grams of cannabis at his home. He had pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs and was remanded to prison.
However, during the latest court proceedings, Da Silva made submissions challenging key aspects of the prosecution’s case. The magistrate upheld those arguments and dismissed all three charges.
