Following the hit and run accident that claimed the lives of two Nabaclis men on Sunday night, a police rank was arrested and is in custody assisting with the investigation.
A police source told the Guyana Standard that the police rank was arrested for questioning. The rank allegedly struck down the men and fled the scene in his motorcar. A police investigation led to his arrest. Following his arrest, he retained an attorney. He suffered a broken arm. The Guyana Police Force is yet to issue an official statement regarding the accident.
The accident occurred between Clonbrook and Ann’s Grove, along the Railway Embankment on the East Coast of Demerara. At the time of the accident, Burgess was the rider of the motorcycle while Bristol was the pillion rider, when they were struck by a speeding motorcar. The vehicle dragged Bristol’s body a short distance before fleeing the scene. Bristol was pronounced dead at the scene, while Burgess was transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The families of Collis Bristol, also known as ‘Cappo,’ and Akeem Burgess, known as ‘Burnham,’ of Nabaclis Village, East Coast Demerara, were offering a reward of $200,000 for any information leading to the identification of the driver responsible for the hit-and-run incident that resulted in their tragic deaths.
