With immediate effect, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has implemented revised arrangements governing the assignment of Judges to panels of the Court.
In a statement the CCJ said that under the new framework, all Judges of the Court will sit on all panels, unless a Judge has been formally excused from sitting for a legitimate reason.
The change is intended to ensure a more consistent, transparent, and flexible approach to allocating judicial work.
The Court said the revised arrangements will also support the efficient administration of justice. Leadership of the panels will be provided by three panel leaders: the President of the Court and the Court’s two most senior Judges.
This decision was made amid concerns raised by Judges of the Court regarding its President, Justice Winston Anderson. Leaked emails reportedly alleged that the President sought to influence the outcomes of matters through the selection of Judges assigned to panels hearing cases. Justice Anderson has denied these allegations, as well as other accusations made against him.
