Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms committed at three mining camps on Tuesday October 13, 2026, between 09:30hrs and 17:00hrs at Toroparu Backdam, Lower Puruni River, during which an undisclosed quantity of raw gold, cash and a firearm with ammunition were stolen.

Preliminary investigations revealed that five masked men, armed with rifles and a shotgun, entered a mining operation owned by a 52-year-old Brazilian miner, where they confronted several workers and forced them to hand over an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.

The suspects subsequently escorted the workers to the main camp, where they relieved them of their cellular phones and caused an undisclosed sum of cash to be transferred from a bank account belonging to a 34-year-old Brazilian female.

The men also stole an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) before proceeding to two other mining camps in the area.

At one of the camps, the suspects confronted several workers and disarmed a 26-year-old security guard of his AR semi-automatic rifle, along with eighteen .223 rounds of ammunition.

The suspects demanded gold and cash from the workers at both camps and physically assaulted several of them before escaping with the stolen firearm and ammunition.

Police ranks subsequently visited the area, where the stolen ATV was recovered abandoned in nearby bushes.

Investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to locate the suspects.
