People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) polling agent Shameika Henry testified on Thursday about her role during the March 2020 General and Regional Elections, including the handling of election documents from the Diamond polling station. Her testimony was heard before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court during the ongoing election fraud trial.
During cross-examination, defence attorney Eusi Anderson focused on the Statement of Poll for ballot box 4134, questioning Henry about its preparation, verification and transfer to PPP/C official Zulfikar Mustapha.
Anderson questioned Henry about whether she had compared the document presented to her in court with the original Statement of Poll displayed outside the polling station on Election Day.
After several attempts to clarify his questions, Henry confirmed that she had compared the documents before leaving the polling station. However, she acknowledged that she had not conducted another comparison after handing the document to Mustapha, explaining that she did not have access to it following the handover.
Anderson also questioned Henry about the preparation of the Statements of Poll by the presiding officer. She confirmed that the presiding officer used a pen to prepare the original document but said the copy handed to her was not prepared in pen ink. When asked whether she could recall if the document she handed to Mustapha was written in pen or produced using another method, Henry said she could not remember.
The defence attorney further asked whether Mustapha had used ultraviolet (UV) light to examine the document when she handed it over. Henry testified that she did not know, explaining that she handed him the document and left shortly afterwards.
The cross-examination focused on Henry’s recollection of the document’s preparation, the checks she conducted at the polling station and the handling of the Statement of Poll after it left her possession.
Henry is expected to continue giving evidence in the trial on October 27.
Several individuals remain before the court in connection with the March 2020 General and Regional Elections, including former Region Four Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo, former Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield and former Deputy Chief Elections Officer Roxanne Myers.
Also charged are former PNCR Chairperson Volda Lawrence, PNCR activist Carol Smith-Joseph and GECOM staff members Enrique Livan, Michelle Miller, Sheffern February and Denise Babb-Cummings.
The charges stem from investigations into alleged attempts to manipulate the results of the March 2020 elections.
