Each time the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) Parliamentary Opposition tried getting certain information from ExxonMobil, the company denied the request.

Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo revealed this today. This was after the Ministry of Natural Resources released a statement suggesting that the PPP/C has been benefitting from information relayed to them during meeting with ExxonMobil.

The Ministry said, “At the request of the Minister of Natural Resources, ExxonMobil has been providing updates and briefings to the Leader of the Opposition at his office.”

Jagdeo then replied in a press statement saying, “The Ministry’s comment regarding briefings provided by ExxonMobil creates the impression that there have been regular briefings provided to the Parliamentary Opposition, when there have been three, at most, in the last three years. During these briefings, often times, when questions are asked, ExxonMobil indicates that it cannot release the information and redirects the Parliamentary Opposition to the Government.

The facts are clear. Guyanese have been kept in the dark. No amount of obfuscation will detract from this.”

  1. That’s absurd and inappropriate..The PPP Opposition has no contract ..or agreement with EXXON/MOBIL..as it relates to Guyana imminent Oil & Gas Industry….so why are they requesting information from them..It’s seem that they have no idea of Business/Company Laws..The PPP ..was not invited to any negotiation between EXXON/MOBIL and the current APNU/AFC current coalition government of Guyana ..so why seek information without going through the government..and think that it would be readily given to them ..Dumb..just dumb..!!!..
