Dr. Harold Davis Jr. has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).

This was announced by Minister of State Joseph, during the post-Cabinet press briefing held at the Ministry of Presidency earlier today.

Dr Davis’ appointment was made on August 1, last, the Minister noted.

Quizzed on the appointment of GuySuCo’s Board of Directors, Harmon assured that the body will be installed by the end of next week. This installation he said, will follow “well-advanced” deliberations.

The Board of GuySuCo has been absent since February of this year, previous media reports have indicated.

The David Granger-led administration has faced intense criticisms mainly by the opposition, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and the union representing sugar workers, the Guyana Agriculture Workers’ Union (GAWU) for its inability to appoint the board in a timely manner.

Both the PPP and GAWU believe that the board should be in place during what many believe to be an important period in Guyana’s sugar industry.
