Former Presidential Advisor on Petroleum, Dr. Jan Mangal is calling on the government to conduct a review of the projected expenses for the Liza Phase One Project which is pegged at US$4.4B.

Based on his experience in the oil and gas industry, the Consultant said that even the smallest review could save Guyana some US$880M. This alone could build four Skeldon Sugar Estates comfortably, the consultant argued.

While ExxonMobil may be moving ahead with development plans for the Liza Phase Two Project, Dr. Mangal said that a production licence should not be granted unless a thorough audit is done.

He said that a failure to conduct an audit of the Liza Phase One Project costs could see Guyana giving away money for no reason.
