Challenges such as a ballooning budgetary deficit, late and non-payment of staff, debts mounting to hundreds of millions of dollars to private contractors, and the inefficient  collection of rates and taxes, will be faced head-on by the new Mayor and City Council.

This charge was made just moments ago by Mayor, Ubraj Narine.

In a statement to the press, Pandit Narine expressed many thanks to all those who elected him, while noting that he is ready to tackle all issues plaguing the institution.

He said, “I thank those that went before me for their service and I thank my fellow councilors for electing me. The bitter campaign is over. The sweet challenges of hard work and cooperation must now be embraced.”

Narine said that he will endeavour “to be the Chief Citizen of Georgetown, leading by example for the good of all.”
