Now that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has said that a March 19 elections is out of the question, the National Assembly will have to vote to extend the deadline. But Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo stated today that his party will not contribute to this.

At his press conference today, Jagdeo said, “We will not, at this stage, vote to extend the life of this government. What are we voting for, to extend the life of this government so that they can continue to abuse state resources? So that they can continue to steal and transfer resources? so that they can continue to violate the Constitution and make excuses for not holding elections?”

The Opposition Leader said that the government is pushing the country into unconstitutional territory. He said that after March 19, the APNU+AFC administration will be treated as illegal by the PPP and he believes the wider international community as well.
