Investigators have arrested a serial robber in the murder of 63-year-old old Claymont Telford who was brutally beaten during a home invasion on Sunday morning at 101 Republic Drive, Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The suspect is a 26-year-old Beterverwagting resident and has been charged on numerous occasions for robberies.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspect is being grilled at the Criminal investigation Department (CID) at Eve Leary, Georgetown. Police ranks said that they are also trying to locate a friend of the suspect.

A Post Mortem examination revealed that Telford died from manual strangulation. He was murdered in a bread shop he operated in, in the front of his home.

The 63-year-old man and his wife, Shondel Emmanuel, were preparing to close that shop when the three masked men stormed in on them. One of the suspects was armed with gun which he used to gun-butt the deceased to the back of his head repeatedly.

The deceased’s wife was taken to their home by one of the men where she handed over cash and jewelry, amounting to a little over one million dollars. When the woman returned to the shop, she discovered her spouse motionless.

The investigation is ongoing.
