Investigators have reopened the 2009 murder investigation of a 45-year-old businessman whose body was found in the trunk of a rental car at Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The body of Ramzan Alli, a fuel dealer, was found a day after he left his Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home. A post mortem examination showed that the victim died from asphyxiation.

The Guyana Standard was told that in the initial stage of the investigation, police ranks had arrested the businessman’s wife, her lover, and another individual. They were however released due to lack of evidence.

Over the weekend, the woman’s lover was rearrested after the police found a new lead in the case. It is unclear if the woman is in the country.

At the time of the murder, the deceased’s wife had told the police that he left home without cash and jewelry. She claimed that he left after receiving a phone call from someone. He never returned home.
