A money changer is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being shot to the head this morning in front of Ashmin’s Building on High Street, Georgetown.

The injured man has only been identified as Phillip.

According to information received, the victim had just exited his vehicle when he was confronted and shot by gunmen who escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash. The suspect was not masked and had an accomplice.

It is suspected that the bandits might have been trailing the victim for some time now since they were at the location before he arrived to park.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the victim would usually park his vehicle around High Street and walk to America Street where he would usually conduct his business.

“There is hardly any parking on America Street so most money changers would park elsewhere and walk to their spot on America Street and Phillip usually does the same,” a money changer said this morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
