Days after a young Bartician was shot twice to his chest and left for dead in front of an entertainment bar, his alleged attacker was this afternoon charged with murder.

Marvin Jacobs, 29, a mason of First Avenue, Bartica, is accused of murdering Antonio Dos Santos, 21, of lot 22 Second Avenue, Bartica.

Jacobs was not required to plead to the charge which stated that, on May 13, 2019 at First Avenue, Bartica, he murdered Dos Santos.

He appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. His lawyer, Trenton Lake, told the court that his client did not give the police a statement.

According to the police’s information, on the day in question at about 2:25 AM, Dos Santos was consuming alcohol when he was approached and shot twice in the left region of the chest by Jacobs who then quickly fled the scene.

Dos Santos was rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was treated and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). However, he succumbed to his injuries about 7:05 AM at the Bartica Airstrip while waiting to be medivaced.

The magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded Jacobs to prison. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on June 12 at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
