The University of Guyana (UG) is closed temporarily after receiving another bomb scare. This time, an individual using the pseudonym Jack Ryan, said he has placed 20 bombs across the institute’s Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara (ECD) campus.

The person issued his threat under a news agency’s social media’s account. He said that the bomb has a timer which can be remotely activated and deactivated.

“The bomb is activated at exactly 15:00 hrs unless my demands are met. Students must leave the campus before I make my demands,” the person warned. Police ranks are currently sweeping the campus for possible explosives.

In addition to this, the individual sent a photograph to the news site stating that it was one of the bombs placed at the tertiary institution. But an independent search conducted by Guyana Standard proved this to be inaccurate. Here is a link showing the same photograph attached to another story that was published last year by an Irish news agency: https://www.thesun.ie/news/3549449/man-dublin-courtroom-alleged-pipe-bomb-device-refused-bail/

Furthermore, the Guyana Standard has been informed that exams which were slated for today have been cancelled.

In February last, 25-year-old Sheneza Jafferally, a former student at the institute, was charged for allegedly issuing bomb threats to the university. She is currently released on bail.

This news site was told that investigators arrested the young woman after her telephone number was linked to the number from which the bomb threats were allegedly made to the university.

In February, last, a number of bomb threats were made at various schools across the city, starting with School of the Nations. Bishops High, Queens College and Mae’s soon followed. No one was arrested for those threats.
