Two North West District men whom the court heard admitted to killing a man and dumping his body in a latrine were today charged with murder and remanded to prison.

Leroy McIntyre, 41, and Leon Roberts, 18, both miners of Falls Top, North West District, appeared late this afternoon before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

They were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that, between May 17, 2019 and May 22, 2019 at Tasawenie Landing, North West District, they murdered Darren David.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels stated that on May 17 the men were drinking at Marcus Hope’s shop at Tasawenie Backdam when David accused them of trying to rob him of some money.

An argument ensued among the defendants and David. However, David left the shop and headed home.

The court heard that McIntyre and Roberts left shortly after and caught up with David, engaging the man in a confrontation along the Tasawenie Backdam trail. The defendants then proceeded to beat David, during which time they stabbed him to his throat and dumped his body in a latrine.

The prosecutor added that after David failed to return home, his family began searching for him and subsequently found his body in a latrine on May 22.

The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and both men were arrested. Prosecutor Daniels told the court that while in custody the men admitted to committing the murder. They also reportedly told officers that another man assisted them with dumping David’s body in the latrine. The third man is being sought by the police.

Both men were remanded to prison until July 2 when they will appear in the Aquaro Magistrate’s Court.
