A mentally ill man went berserk yesterday afternoon chopping his 25-year-old sister to death and wounding an older sibling when she tried to intervene in their yard at Waramuri Village, Moruca, Region One.

The deceased has been identified as Cynthia Cozier. She died this morning at the Suddie Hospital. Wounded and hospitalized is 40-year-old Beverly Cozier. She is said to be in a stable condition at the aforementioned hospital.

The suspect, 28-year-old Randy Cozier, who is known to be of unsound mind, has not been arrested as yet.

According to information received, the suspect and the deceased had an argument during which he reportedly ran into the house and armed himself with a cutlass. He returned to where his sister was and continued arguing with her.

A police source said that they have received reports that while the suspect was arguing, he was brandishing the weapon and threatening to chop the woman but she allegedly did not take him seriously because he is known to make empty threats.

As the argument continued, the 28-year-old man went berserk and started chopping the now dead woman. Their older sibling, who was standing nearby, ran to the duo and tried to push the suspect away from her younger sister but he turned the weapon on her, chopping her several times about the body.

He ran from the scene when other family members and neighbours approached him with weapons.
