A man who police said discharged rounds of gunfire in the air while partying outside the Splashmin’s Resort a few days ago was today remanded to prison after being slapped with an illegal firearm possession charge.

Devon Atkinson, known as ‘Wild Buck’, 32, a mechanic of Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Providence Magistrate’s Court.

Atkinson pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on July 14, 2019, at the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, he had in his possession a Bushmaster Carbon 15 AR-15 Pistol when he was not a licensed firearm holder.

The defendant was represented by attorney-at-law Siand Dhurjon who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.

According to information, on the day in question, the defendant was at a creek partying outside the Splashmin’s Resort when he was observed by a police officer pulling out the weapon from his backpack and discharging several rounds in the air.

He was then arrested and taken into custody, hence the present charge.

Magistrate Latchman, after listening to the facts, remanded him to prison until August 6, 2019.
