A woman, who the court heard was under surveillance by ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, was moments ago remanded to prison on a cocaine trafficking charge.

Forty-one-year-old Samantha Hubbard of 194 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared before  Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 25 at 194 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, she had in her possession 142 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh revealed that the woman was under surveillance for the past six months.

On the day in question, ranks from CID went to the above mentioned address and the alleged cocaine was found in the defendant’s handbag wrapped in transparent plastics.

However, her lawyer Dexter Todd, in an unsuccessful bail application, told the court that, at the time of the search, his client was not in possession of her handbag.

The lawyer added that where the alleged narcotics was found, there are 16  persons living at the address and at the time, his client was standing infront of a shop her family operates.

The magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded the woman to prison until October 24.
