Police ranks probing the shooting of a 42-year-old pawnshop owner have confirmed that the gunman was waiting at the Harbour Bridge Mall at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on his victim.

The shooting happened just before 10:00 hrs today.

Melia Singh, 42, of Diamond was shot to the leg by the lone bandit who escaped with her bag.

The victim operates a pawnshop at the mall.

A police source said that the gunman seemed familiar with the victim and her timings since he arrived at the mall a little before her and was seen waiting at the gate.

The woman was then seen driving into the compound. The suspect knew the victim’s car also.

The Guyana Standard has been told that the suspect watched the woman parked and then walked in. He confronted her just as she exited the car.

Singh was shot and her attacker ran away with her bag. He was seen running into Bagotstown.

The woman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she remains a patient.

No arrest has been made as yet.
