Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo is claiming that all the branches of the State of Guyana are in shambles. Jagdeo said that because of the shortcomings of the Executive, the other two arms of the State being the Judiciary and the Legislature are also crumbling.

According to Jagdeo, things are so bad, that Guyana is approaching a “failed state-type” status.

Jagdeo alluded to the fact that there were only three parliamentary sittings since December 21, 2018. Even those sittings he said, can be deemed “illegal” since they were done after the passage of the no-confidence motion.
“From December 21, 2018, to now, there has been no legislative agenda for the country. This is a huge thing! We have a parliamentary system, and you have a non-functioning parliament,” Jagdeo stressed.

Jagdeo said too that the Judicial branch is also in a similar predicament, with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) lying dormant since 2017.

“So, you have three branches of the government: the Legislative branch, not functioning; the Judicial branch, two years now [and] no JSC, which is the governing body; and then the Executive branch – dysfunctional, and illegal. That is the state of Guyana they’ve taken us on. Almost to a failed state-type status,” he lamented.
