A 42-year-old rice farmer, who allegedly confessed to murdering 14-year-old Christopher Basdeo before burying him in a seven feet grave at Lust-En-Rust, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was today charged with murder.

Jairam Sieupersaud of 548 Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Zameena Ali-Seepaul at the Wales Magistrate’s Courts.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between October 16 and October 25, 2019, at Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara, he murdered Christopher Basdeo.

He was remanded to prison until December 12.

According to information, the teenager disappeared last Wednesday after he left his La Parfaite Harmonie home to meet with a friend.

It was later reported that the teen was seen in the company of the farmer drinking Banko wine around 20:15 hrs on Wednesday afternoon.

Guyana Standard was informed that the duo later got into a fight and the rice farmer reportedly armed himself with a piece of wood and lashed the teen to his head, causing him to collapse.

Sieupersaud then left the teen there and went home. He returned later, dug a hole and buried the remains.

The matter was then investigated and Sieupersaud was charged for the offence.
