A 37-year-old man, who allegedly impregnated an underage girl, has been found dead in the Whim Police Station’s lockups this morning.
It is suspected that Courtney Persaud used his t-shirt to hang himself while the two other prisoners, who were in the same lockup, were sleeping.
Divisional Commander, Calvin Brutus, confirmed that Persaud was found dead this morning and said that the other prisoners will be questioned.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the deceased was arrested on Saturday after a relative made a police report that he had been sexually assaulting her daughter since the child was seven-years-old. The victim is now pregnant.
Persaud had been on the run for sometime now until the police manage to track him down in Berbice yesterday where he had been hiding out.
