GARY BECKLES JAILED FOR ASSAULTING EX-LOVER

The first charge stated that on October 25, 2019, at Sussex Street, Charlestown, he made use of threatening language towards Brittany Dover.

It was further alleged that on November 26, 2019, at Hill Street, Albouystown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Brittany Dover.

An unrepresented Beckles pleaded guilty to both charges after they were read to him by the Magistrate.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh stated that the victim and Beckles were involved in a relationship and were engaged to be married.

However, during that time, the defendant frequently abused the woman which led to her ending the relationship.

The court heard the defendant refused to leave the woman alone and would often make threats against her life. He told her that he spent five years in prison for a similar offence and was not afraid to go back.

On October 25, last, Beckles saw the victim walking on Sussex Street, Charlestown, on her way to work and attacked her from behind.

The court heard that Beckles pushed the woman to the ground and dealt her several kicks to her face causing her to receive lacerations about her head, face and lips. He then made good his escape.

It was further reported that on November 26, last, the defendant saw the victim standing on Hill Street, Albouystown, and he pulled out a firearm and advanced towards her threatening to kill her.

The woman, being fearful for her life, ran to the Ruimveldt Police Station and reported the matter.

The matter was then investigated and the defendant was arrested and charged for the offence.

The Magistrate, after listening to facts, sentenced Beckles to three years for the unlawful wounding and two weeks for the threatening language.
