Police in Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), following a two-hour enforcement exercise, found 21 instances where vehicle operators breached the law.

The exercise was conducted yesterday between 15:00hrs – 17:00hrs, and was led by Inspector Troy Griffith, Sergeant 20114 Davidson and other ranks from that Station District.

Coming out of that campaign, the following cases were made:

Case No# Infractions
Breach of insurance 2
Using motor vehicle other than what it is licensed for 3
Uncertified motor vehicle 2
Unlicensed driver 1
Breach of condition of prescribed  fitness 5
Conductor overload 4
Faulty packing of load 4

This campaign comes at a time when much concern is being raised about the carnage on our roadways. Two days ago, President David Granger told the Nation that some 114 persons, nine of whom were children, were killed in 97 road accidents for the year so far, with 21 deaths recorded in November alone.

“The record is grave,” the president said, while noting that three out of five fatalities are young persons between the ages of 16 and 42 years.
