A 54-year-old Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man is expected to be charged sometime this week after he was allegedly caught raping his six-year-old granddaughter while watching porn on Wednesday.
A medical examination has confirmed that the little girl has been sexually molested. The police are now waiting on some pertinent details, including a report from the Child Care and Protection Agency, before they proceed with charges.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the little girl and her five-year-old brother were left in the care of their maternal grandparents since the death of their father a little over a year ago. Their mother does not live with them.
Based on information received, on Wednesday, a neighbour was doing some work in his yard when he overheard the little girl crying, “Nana don’t do that.” The curious neighbour allegedly climbed onto the suspect’s roof and saw him looking at porn while raping the child.
While it is being reported that it was the neighbour who reported the matter to the police, the child’s mother claimed that she was the one who went to the police station and made the report.
According to the woman, she was at work when her mother called and gave her “some unclear details” about her daughter. She said that her mother’s call left her puzzled and confused, causing her to travel to Mahaicony where she proceeded to question her daughter.
“I questioned her and she said he (grandfather) interfere with her 10 times. I take her straight to the station and made the report,” the woman said while adding that there is no doubt in her mind that her father did rape her child.
She further alleged that after her daughter’s incident, persons who are familiar with her father told her that he had also raped his eldest daughter when she was a child and their mother covered for him.
The woman believes that her mother was aware that the six-year-old was being molested and kept it a secret until their neighbour caught the 54-year-old man in the act.
She has since removed her children from her parents’ home and wants him to spend the rest of his life in prison for what he has done to her daughter.
