Doctors at the New Amsterdam Hospital are presently trying to stabilize a 24-year-old mother of one—who was severely chopped last night by her husband at their Bush Lot, Corentyne Berbice home.

Nalicia Ragoonauth has to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for advanced medical treatment but she first has to be stabilized before she is moved from the hospital in Berbice.

She was chopped to her neck, hand and received injuries to her back. The wound to her neck is said to be severe.

Her husband, 27-year-old Ganesh Narine was discovered dead when neighbours went into the house last night. He hanged himself.

According to information received, around 22:00 hrs last night, the couple went home after attending a birthday party at a neighbour’s home and according to a police source, an argument started.

The details surrounding the argument are unclear at this point but the police source said that the couple’s son said that he was awakened to the victim shouting for help and when he went outside, he saw blood dripping from her neck.

His father was armed with a cutlass and was seen attempting to go after the victim, who by this time, had already made it through the door. She collapsed in the yard and was rushed to the hospital by neighbours.

The little boy told the investigating ranks that he has no idea what caused the argument but said his parents would usually fight a lot.

Only Thursday night, 44-year-old Somattie Keosoram was murdered by her husband, Terrence Jackson at their Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home. Jackson slit her throat after accusing her of having an affair with a taxi driver.

And, two Wednesdays ago, Nathram Lall stabbed his wife, Annette Ally, to death inside their Crane, West Coast Demerara (WCD) home after seeing her dancing with another man at a birthday party. He ingested poison but survived.
