A 26-year-old porkknocker who the court heard picked up a man from a chair and slammed him to the ground after he refused to give him money, was today charged with murder.

O’Neil Jeffery was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on February 29,2020 at 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro River, he murdered Roland Kanhai.

Jefferey appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Kanhai was at a bar consuming alcohol when Jeffery approached him and asked for money.

The court heard that Kanhai refused and the accused picked him up from his chair and slammed him to the ground.

He then placed in hands in the victim’s pocket and relived him of his cash.

Jeffery then made good his escape while Kanhai was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he later died.

The Prosecutor told the court that Kanhai received a fractured skull.

The matter was then reported and following investigation, Jeffery was arrested and charged for the offence. The Chief Magistrate remanded Jeffery to prison until March 23
