Prison officer, George Selman was today once again remanded to prison for the safety of the victim.

Forty-three-year-old Selman was hauled before the courts a month ago for verbally threatening a woman and violating a protection order.

It is alleged that on February 2, 2020, at Hinck Street, Georgetown, he made use of threatening language towards Donella Andrews.

It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he contravened a protection order made on July 16, 2018 in relation to Donella Andrews by coming within 50 feet of her and holding her hand.

He denied both charges after they were read to him by Principal Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.

This morning when the matter was called, the victim told the court that Selman is still contacting her from behind bars and threatening her.

Hence, Police Prosecutor Delon Sullivan in addressing the court stated that contact was made with the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels and he was informed that a search was conducted in Selman’s cell and a cellular phone was found. The Prosecutor added that since the discovery, Selman has been placed in maximum confinement. The Magistrate, after listening to the facts stated “ You (Selman) is a good pickle, the longer you stay the hotter you get. I thought you would have cool off by now.” Hence, she further remanded Selman to prison citing that the safety of the victim is important.

Two weeks ago, Selman who is no stranger to the courts was remanded by the Magistrate because she is of the opinion that he has a tendency of disobeying the laws of the country.
The protection order was consented by him. The police prosecutor had told the court that Selman’s actions clearly show he has no respect for the law.

In 2017, Selman was charged for assaulting a court orderly at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. This was after the magistrate spoke to him on four occasions about his behaviour.
Selman was also previously charged for assaulting a minor school girl; the matter was however dismissed.
