As it continues the evaluation of plans for budget cuts and “work-from-home” arrangements in response to the novel Coronavirus, ExxonMobil has assured that there is currently no impact being felt on its Liza Phase One Production in the Stabroek Block.

Giving this assurance was ExxonMobil’s Public Relations Advisor, Janelle Persaud. But while production remains ongoing, the official did disclose to Guyana Standard that plans are in place to slow down drilling operations soon.

Persaud said, “We have been working to limit the disruption of the coronavirus to our operations but given its global nature, travel restrictions have posed challenges getting workers into Guyana and this can impact our ability to maintain normal operations offshore.”

The ExxonMobil official added, “We are evaluating our staffing levels on our four drilling vessels and the Liza Destiny FPSO to determine next steps. In the meantime, we have made contingency plans to slow down drilling activities in the coming weeks, starting with exploration drilling.”

She told Guyana Standard that this would be done in the event that sustained travel restrictions prevent the company from carrying out these activities. That aside, Persaud emphasized that there is no impact to production on the Liza Destiny, Guyana’s first Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.

She noted that ExxonMobil will continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust its plans accordingly.
