A group of 21 Guyanese who returned from Barbados recently, have been cleared to go home to their families after being medically cleared. They were placed in mandatory isolation by the Ministry of Public Health.

Another seven persons who were on home quarantine have also been cleared.

These disclosures were made by the Public Health Minister Hon. Volda Lawrence in her update to the nation today.

In her report, the minister disclosed that the total number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Guyana remains at 37 as of April 9, 2020.

The number of coronavirus deaths locally remains at 6 with the most recent death occurring on April 7, 2020.

As of April 9, 2020, a total of 152 persons have been tested with 115 of those tested returning negative and 37 (inclusive of the six deaths) testing positive.

Eleven persons are in institutional quarantine while another 22 are in institutional isolation by the Public Health Ministry. Four persons are in the COVID-19 ICU at GPHC and one is in a critical condition.

The Public Health Ministry continues to offer psychosocial support for those in need of these services.

The Global statistics stand at 1, 353, 361 confirmed cases with 79,235 deaths, while in the Region of the Americas, the total number of confirmed cases is 417,416 cases & 12,597 deaths.

Citizens are asked to always practice social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation so as reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
