Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has dispatched a letter to the Chairman on National Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Task Force (NCTF) Requesting approval for the departure and landing of a chartered flight from Guyana to collect the team members scheduled to arrive in Guyana to observe the recount of the votes cast in the March 2 General and Regional Elections. This is according to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Yolanda Ward.

She indicated that no arrival date has been determined as yet.

The SG, according to Ward, also indicated that arrangements would be made for the members of the team to be tested in their respective country, using the Word Health Organisation (WHO)-approved Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) COVID-19 test.

Also, a request was made for the WHO approved PCR COVID-19 to be administered to the team before they depart Guyana.

Over 50 days have passed since votes were cast in Guyana.
