Guyana has confirmed 12 new cases of the COVID-19 virus. This takes the total number of persons infected with the disease to 171, says the nation’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Shamdeo Persaud.

These new cases would have come from the 36 tests that were conducted.

Fellow Guyanese, welcome to another COVID-19 update. I am Dr Shamdeo Persaud, Chief Medical Officer.

To date, 1,995 tests would have been carried out. Of that number, 1,822 are negative. There are 60 active cases in institutional isolation and 24 cases in quarantine.

Ninety-nine persons would have recovered.

The CMO said that Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has recorded its first case. This translates to 8 out of 10 regions reporting COVID-19 cases.

According to WHO, there are 7,823,289 cases with 431 541 deaths globally, with the Region of the Americas reporting
3,781,538 with 201,848 deaths.
