There are no new reported cases of the COVID-19 virus, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Shamdeo Persaud said during today’s update.

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 183 and the number of COVID-19 deaths, 12.

Some 2048 tests have been conducted so far, with 1865 being negative.

To date, 102 persons have recovered.

“In institutional isolation we now have 69 active cases and 24 cases in Institutional quarantine. There is no patient in the COVID-19 ICU (Intensive Care Unit),” the health official said.

Dr Persaud reminded that Guyana is at a much higher risk because COVID-19 is rampant in bordering countries.

He also reminded that Guyanese men continue to be most affected by this disease, and the adults, especially the 20-29 age group is the most at risk group according to the ministry’s data.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the total number of cases globally is 8,242, 999 with 445,535 deaths.

In the Region of the Americas, the number of positive cases is 4,015, 386 with 208,991 deaths.
