Fire fighters battling a blaze this afternoon at Sixth Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD)—stumbled upon the bodies of a 14-year-old boy and his parents.

The deceased have been identified as Dawall Ifill, 14; Beverly Miller, 40 and 46-year-old Martin Lewis.

Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle could not be reached for a comment but a source attached to the Guyana Fire Service said that ranks who went to the scene have not yet returned to the office with their findings.

The cause of the blaze is unknown so far.

Based on information received, the fire broke out just after 16:30 hrs this afternoon. It is believed that the family was trapped in their apartment which was located in the lower flat of the building. It was heavily grilled.

Residents were only alerted to the bodies when fire-fighters discovered their remains among the debris. It was initially suspected that all the tenants vacated the apartment building once the fire started.
